My Role

Process

My first step was to better understand what the founder of Coteacher envisioned for his product. After many meetings and a lot of questions I created, defined, and prioritized the main features of the application for the MVP and future releases.

MVP Features

Setting Design Goals

Building User Stories

As the Design Lead, I introduced an Agile workflow and organized tasks and deliverables for my team, and collaborated with our developers to establish milestones.

Design Phase

Since this is a large project, I will be focusing on one of the features I designed. If you would like to hear more about how I designed the other features, please contact me here

Designing Collections

Step 1: Understanding the concept of a Collection

I like to think of a collection in comparison to a music playlist. A person creates a playlist by grouping songs they like based on a specific genre. Similarly, a teacher plans their lessons by bundling resources into a collection and aligning it to the education standards (subjects) that they teach.

Step 2: Defining the main goals for collections

Step 3: Sketching, Iterating, and Wireframing possible solution

Step 4: Creating a style guide

Step 5: Mockups, Iterations, Prototypes, and User Testing

Reflections and Takeaways

Creating and launching Coteacher was a really fun and eye-opening experience. Our startup team put in a lot of work and it was rewarding to see our product go live.

As a designer, I grew in many ways. I learned how important it is to continuously iterate design ideas and communicate with your teammates. I also, gained a lot of user testing experience. One tip I learned while facilitating a user test is to pause and give the user a chance to answer the question. This gave the user more time and room to express their emotions and provide more thoughtful responses.
